Bruce Power delays shipment of steam generators through Great Lakes
[29 Mar 2011] Bruce Power says it will delay its controversial plan to ship 16 school-bus-sized steam generators through the Great Lakes so the power company can consult with First Nations, Metis and others who have expressed concerns. Last month, Canada's nuclear watchdog granted a licence to Ontario's Bruce Power, a nuclear generating company, to transport the radiation-laced steel generators through the Great Lakes on their way to Sweden for recycling. Municipalities raise concerns over nuclear shipment
[08 Mar 2011] More than 70 municipalities are raising concerns about a plan to transport radioactive material along the St. Lawrence River, an important Ontario water source and recreation site. Ontario nuclear company Bruce Power plans to use the waterway to ship 16 contaminated generators from the St. Lawrence to Sweden. In Europe, the metal from the generators will be turned into scraps.
