  3. (1992-1996) Consultant and founding member of McMaster University Health and War Program: «The Health of Children in War Zones Project» in support of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, funded by Health Canada. Research methodologist in Sri Lankan survey of 300+ schoolchildren affected by armed conflict assessed for child psychological trauma and anxiety/depression. A community-based «health-peace initiative» called the Butterfly Garden emerged as follow-up response.   4. Developed innovations in household survey methodology based on the construction of the genogram (family tree) using a set of cards and markers.   5. (1989-1994) M.Sc.in Design Measurement and Evaluation (DME) thesis: Assessing the Health of Urban Homeless in Canada: The Potential of Community-Based Health Surveys and Qualitative Research Methods to Inform Public Policy.
    Abstract: The 1992 community-based survey of the health status and barriers to health care of homeless men and women in Toronto, Canada is evaluated methodologically. The sampling frame and the composite definition of homelessness used is discussed. Comparative population health and utilization data from the Ontario Health Survey (1990) is presented and appraised. The project concludes that epidemiological research on high-risk, high-need populations be critically evaluated as initiatives in health promotion.
  6. (1991) International Study Team, Iraq:. "Health and Welfare in Iraq after the Gulf Crisis. Child Mortality and Nutrition Survey: A Public Health Survey" researcher and team supervisor in a survey of 9,000 Iraqi households to document infant and under-five mortality rates.
