IntroductionThe Institute has restructured to maximize and enhance the use of its valuable resources. The Circles of Concern initiative is based upon the work and future vision of Dr. Rosalie Bertell. Conceptualized to provide a coordinated interdisciplinary approach to complex environmental and public health issues, Circles is a network of diverse professionals and organizations united by the common goal of improving public environmental health. Through this network, Project Partners, the professional members of Circles of Concern, work cooperatively to share research and information related to the environment and public health. At the same time, Project Participants (citizen members) receive independent scientific information and services which enable them to take effective action to improve community environmental health. Current Circles include Physicians, Environmental Law, Occupational Health / Industrial Hygiene, Sustainable Technology, and Media. A natural progression of this initiative will engage representatives from industry, management, and labor organizations. As will be later discussed, a major part of the Circles initiative includes the development of the proposed resource centre specializing in the environment and public health.
